For someone who titled his book ‘Doe maar niet’ (‘Better don’t do it’), Amir Bachrouri does a lot! At 17, he became president of the Flemish Youth Council, and at 19 he wrote a book about being an ambitious, engaging youngster from an immigrant family in a world that’s not too keen on giving him chances. He found a way out, but for many of his peers, the door to a better life remains closed.
