For millennia, the human brain has been a largely unexplored frontier. Only in the 21st century has science truly begun to progress far enough into the field of neuroscience for effective neurotechnologies to begin to take shape.
‘Neurotechnology’ merges neuroscience and technology, exploring brain-machine interfaces, and cognitive enhancement. Applications range from medical treatments for neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, major depression and brain injury to brain controlled interfaces in gaming and virtual reality. Ethical considerations accompany its promising advancements.
During the Mindseed event, keynote speakers from academia and industry will give an overview of what neurotech is already capable of today. The debate will focus on the great potential of neurotech beyond medical applications, for example in enhanced learning, monitoring physical well-being and devices powered by mind control.
NeuroTech Leuven is a community of talented and likeminded students and experts from a broad range of disciplines such as neuroscience, advanced electronics, signal analysis, AI and biochemistry as well as medicine, cognitive psychology and economics. Their common goal is to understand the human brain, visualize its processes and repair or improve its functions.
