"Good health and well-being" is one of the key global sustainable development goals set by the UN for 2030. New technologies such as AI, 3D printing, and nanotechnology can significantly contribute to achieving this goal. However, the high costs mean that a large part of the world's population has little or no access to these applications. This is the challenge that the new Research Centre for Affordable Health Technology at KU Leuven aims to address.
An interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and researchers will develop medical technologies that are affordable and usable in countries and regions where there are insufficient financial or logistical resources to implement sophisticated and expensive applications. The center also focuses on training experts from these countries who can, in turn, train the experts of tomorrow on-site.
