These artists and works will be on display:
Playfield - RUMOR // Unfolding Futures [continuous]
RUMOR // Unfolding Futures reveals a shared vision of the future by bringing individual dreams together in an interactive audio experience. Through anonymous contributions, all imaginations are continuously interwoven by Artificial Intelligence, through which playField attempts to connect individual desire with the collective dream in our highly individualistic society.
Ugo Dehaes / Bad Blood - Arena [continuous]
Although artificial humans and mechanical automata have been invented and created since ancient times, the word robot has only been around for 100 years. Meanwhile, robots are ubiquitous in our society and over 800 million jobs are expected to be taken over by them by 2030. Choreographer Ugo Dehaes questions this evolution by applying it within his artistic process: can he replace dancers with robots, and himself with artificial intelligence? In the installation Arena, he invites the audience to interact with eight robots so that they become better dancers.
Kunrad - Between Copper and Zinc [25 min]
What sound do you hear when thousand pieces of messing (a type of metal) fall down at high speed? That question was the starting point for Dutch sound artist Kunrad in working on Between Copper And Zinc (messing is made of copper and zinc). The air friction of the hollow tubes of messing causes a thin, singing sound. Several containers suspended from the ceiling are programmed to drop the tubes into heaps of sand, metres below. Different sizes of tubes create different pitches (soprano, alto, tenor, bass). That way, musical patterns arise and turn into a staggering composition.
Mika Oki - Night Metamorphosis [15 min]
Mika Oki is a Brussels-based dj, radio maker, composer and artist. Via media such as video, light, smoke and electro-acoustic sound she makes immersive audiovisual installations with references to ambient and club rhythms. Her work Night Metamorphosis makes use of an ingenious play of light and sound to take the audience on a nightly trip. It triggers mental associations with the northern lights, the sparkling glistening skylines of a night flight or waves under the moonlight.
Ohme & Roméo Poirier - Tales of Entropy [30 min]
Art and science collective Ohme and composer Roméo Poirier present Tales of Entropy, an audiovisual performance based on microscopic activity. The central role is given to a scientific microscope projected live on screen. Chemical processes of organic matter create a stunning pallet of colours, patterns and tiny details. Moreover, Roméo Poirier's music is semi-automatically generated from live analysis of these microscopic images. As such, Ohme and Poirier create a series of audiovisual paintings that let us reflect on the tiniest matter on earth.
Niels Orens [only on Saturday March 16]
The highly anticipated electronic talent of Flanders unveils its new audiovisual spectacle. Niels Orens creates electroacoustic music inspired by technology and visual arts. His compositions range from moments of tranquility and sensitivity (featuring cello or piano) to explosive bursts of flashy breakbeats and deep bass lines. In 2024, Niels Orens is set to release an album on Max Cooper's label, Mesh. Additionally, he is in the process of developing an entirely new audiovisual live show with video elements, set to be performed live during FTI and&.
