Véronique Goossens is the chief economist at the Belgian bank Belfius. She is also the author of “De Geldmakers”, a bestseller of its kind in Belgium and supported by the Pascal Decroos Fund for special journalism. It tells the history of the National Bank of Belgium through various characters and zooms in on the functioning of the financial system, the management of the financial crisis in Belgium, the ECB, the perils surrounding private shareholding at the National Bank, and a host of other issues.
Goossens has been in journalism for more than 20 years and is best known as an anchorwoman for the Belgian economic news channel Kanaal Z. In her capacity as the creator of Z-Talk Goossens at Kanaal Z, she has interviewed nearly 600 Belgian captains of industry, politicians and top civil servants, mostly on economic issues.
Goossens is at ease addressing a variety of topics such as the economic impact of COVID-19, the functioning of global supply chains, protectionist policies, trade disputes, interest rates, and oil prices. Plenty for a highly stimulating talk!
