Born in Geraardsbergen, Belgium, from childhood on Lisbeth Imbo loved books, so it came as no surprise that she studied Germanic Philology at UGent. After a postgraduate degree in Journalism, in 2000 she started her career as a journalist by working for the Flemish Radio and Television Broadcasting Organization (VRT). At first she was a reporter and children's theatre critic in ‘Voor De Dag’, but soon she became one of the fixed anchors of ‘De Wandelgangen’.
In 2007 Imbo started ‘De Ochtend’ on Radio 1 together with Gilles De Coster, a breakfast show tackling the news. For a while she did this in combination with Terzake, a prime-time news show on the Belgian TV channel Canvas. In 2013 she left the VRT and became deputy editor-in-chief and then editor-in-chief of the newspaper De Morgen. After three years she left the newspaper to make programs again for, amongst others, Canvas (‘Durven Falen’) and VTM (‘Vermassen’) before returning to her old love, the radio (‘De Thuiskomers’, Radio 1).
Since September 2018 Imbo hosts – together with Lieven Verstraete – De Zevende Dag, a Sunday morning news show on VRT. She has found time to write two books, on politics and religion, and is also involved in interviewing and coaching people.
and& Leuven is delighted to have the services of Imbo as one of the event’s main hosts.
