In an ever-changing society, new technologies continue to confront, expand & limit our boundaries & opportunities. and& takes a closer look at the significant role of both people & businesses in the dismantlement of ethical issues that go hand in hand with the introduction of new tech in daily life.
In that sense, and& is proud & excited to welcome Theranos whistleblower Erika Cheung to the programme. As a strong believer in the positive impact of tech on humanity, Erika took a brave stand in the Theranos scandal - a major fraud case in Silicon Valley. She reported Theranos to health regulators, leading to the shutdown of their clinical lab & preventing them from processing patient samples with faulty tech. The scandal was her call to action to stand up & fight to fix problems in tech companies all over the world. “Being an ally to fellow David's facing their own Goliath's is a journey that I find important.”
After working as a medical researcher for biotechnology companies, she founded technology accelerator Betatron & committed herself to grow the entrepreneurial ecosystem throughout Asia. In March 2019 she launched a new non-profit: Ethics in Entrepreneurship, a social movement aimed at implementing ethics into the core of the tech industry & its businesses. Erika actively develops resources & training for future tech leaders.
