Johan Neyts is full professor of Virology at the University of Leuven. His research is focused on the development of novel antiviral strategies against a number of viruses. His work has been published in several book chapters & in more than 285 papers.
Johan’s team was involved in the discovery of the anti-HCV activity of, amongst others, Alisporivir & Tegobuvir. He is member of several national & international scientific committees & on the board of the International Society for Antiviral Research. As co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Okapi Sciences NV, he is developing antivirals for use in veterinary medicine. & he also teaches medical virology at the school of dentistry & the school of medicine at the University of Leuven.
Johan has been honored with a number of awards, such as the Dr. And Mrs Schamelhout-Koettlitz prize from the Royal Belgian Academy of Medicine, the William Prusoff Young Investigator Lecture Award from the International Society for Antiviral Research (ISAR) for excellence in the field & the Princess Josephine Charlotte prize from the Fund for Scientific Research in Belgium. He also holds four patents.
