    Peter Carpreau

Peter Carpreau is the Director in charge of the Old Masters and collection department of the M-Museum, Leuven. At M, he was also responsible for the reinstallation of the collection presented in 2017. Since January 2020, Carpreau is also national representative at the EUROPEAN MUSEUM ACADEMY.

Carpreau studied art history at the KULeuven and the Sorbonne, Paris IV. His PhD was a study into auction prices of 17th Dutch and Flemish painters, sold in the period 1630-2008. The aim was to construct a methodology to work with auction prices in order to see market and taste fluctuations over a long period. Since February he is a temporary Arts professor at the University of Antwerp.

His current research focuses on perception, visual literacy, and the value of art. Recent exhibitions include ‘Rodin, Meunier, Minne and mediaeval sculpture’ (2020), ‘Power and Beauty, the Arenbergs’ (2018), ‘Edgard Tytgat, Memory of a much-loved window’ (2017) and ‘Michiel Coxcie, The Flemish Rafael’ (2013).

Would you like to get more from your visit to an art museum or art exhibition? Then come and listen to the curator's story. What happens behind the scenes of an art exhibition? How do you make such an exhibition? What’s the starting point? How do you make a selection of works? Carpreau will be delighted to provide some fascinating insights into the Old Masters collection at the M-Museum, Leuven. A delight for anyone even remotely interested in art and museums.
