In his capacity as Rector of KU Leuven, Luc Sels is a member of the Rectors’ Assembly of the League of European Research Universities, the Rectors’ Advisory Group of the Coimbra Group, the Board of Directors of Venice International University (VIU), the Board of Directors of Vlerick Business School, the Academic Council of the Europaeum, the General Assembly of UNA Europa, and the General Assembly of Universitas21.
An honorary professor of Cardiff University, Sels holds advisory positions at several universities, such as the Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, the National University of Singapore, and Korea University.
Sels is actively involved in labor market policy research and policy advice. Topics of interest include employment projections, skill level projections, regional projections, active and inactive population, and retirement age. He also researches active labor market policies, talent management and workforce differentiation, and cooperative enterprising.
He serves on the Belgian High Council for Employment (Hoge Raad voor de Werkgelegenheid) as a representative of the Federal Minister of Employment and is director of the Centre of Expertise in Labor Market Monitoring which advises the Flemish government on labor market policies.
