Jürgen Ingels once sketched out an idea on the back of a beer mat. Nothing unusual in that; we’ve probably all done something similar. But not many of us will see our idea leave the café and succeed on such a grand scale.
Ingels’ idea concerned an innovative payments software system. It led to him founding Clear2Pay, a leading payments technology company that under his leadership grew to become one of the world leaders in payment software with more than 1,200 employees in 14 countries. His beer mat idea is now used by financial institutions worldwide.
Today, Ingels is managing director of SmartFin Capital, a long-term-oriented private equity fund that provides expansion and replacement capital to private growth companies in Smart Technologies. Its special focus is on financial technologies that display the potential for significant value creation in fast growing market segments throughout Europe.
He is also the initiator of ‘Supernova’, Belgium’s biggest technology and innovation festival that happens every two years in Antwerp. He is involved in various companies like Guardsquare, Silverfin, Cumul.io, The Glue, and currently holds Board position in countless reputable companies from various sectors: Materialise, Itiviti, Willemen, Ghelamco, UnifiedPost, WDP, Newtec, Itineris, Exellys, …
